About
CASCTRAIN started life in autumn 2008. Until then Irish candidates had no other option than to travel to the UK to attend courses. This unmet need for an Irish course was addressed by a group of post membership registrars and consultants based in St John of God Hospital. They used their experience and success in college exams to collaborate in developing CASCTRAIN.
The need to give candidates good exposure to the ‘marathon’ environment of CASC is considered paramount. Candidates are put through their paces in a format approximating the Sheffield exam. We endeavour to maximize the number of stations candidates complete consecutively to best simulate exam conditions. Written feedback is then provided to aid final preparation. Each year stations are updated in line with feedback from the most recent exam.
Since 2008 Casctrain has continued to successfully offer a course for each diet of the MRCPsych
